When it comes to crafting in the summer, there’s something that just makes us extra excited to get creative if we chose to make things that are themed after our favourite parts of the season. Whether that’s ice cream cones, the beach, or the mere concept of sunshine and clear blue skies, we’re always a little more cheerful than usual when we’re crafting summery things on a warm, calm afternoon in July or August. Where we live, the summer fruits that we adore eating every season are at their peak of ripeness right now, meaning we’ve been downing our fair share of peaches, strawberries, and best of all… watermelons! That’s how we found ourselves looking for watermelon inspired DIY projects of all different kinds.
Just in case you’re as intrigued as we were, if not more, by the idea of making watermelon DIY projects by the bundle, here are 15 of the best ideas, designs, and tutorials we’ve come across in our search so far!
1. Watermelon mason jar glasses
Are you of the opinion that everything related to watermelons always just looks a little bit more refreshing than just about anything else, especially on a very warm day? In that case, we have a feeling you’ll get along very well indeed with this awesome watermelon mason jar drinking glass idea featured on Kara’s Party Ideas! They show you how to use all purpose paints and some green yarn or string to transform each jar into a little watermelon slice for each family member or friend you have over this summer.
2. EOS style watermelon lip gloss
Ever since we were little kids, we’ve always been big fans of flavoured and scented lip glosses. If you ask us, the bright and fruitier our lip chaps are, the better! We find, however, that even though there are plenty of kinds out there in stores, we have trouble finding watermelon scented ones, which is a shame because that’s actually our favourite. That’s why we were so pleased to stumble across this tutorial from Aira Tran that teaches you to make a lip gloss that not only smells like watermelon but also looks like a miniature slice!
3. Painted watermelon canvas runners
Do you actually love watermelons so much that you think the colour combination they naturally present might be your very favourite, to the point that you wish you could incorporate the fruit into your personal style and wear it around all day? In that case, we’d definitely suggest taking a look at how Bespoke Bride hand painted a pair of simple canvas runners to have adorable watermelon slice toes!
4. Water colour watermelon picnic rug
Are you quite intrigued indeed by the idea of creating practical hand painted watermelon things that you might actually use, but your sense of personal style when it comes to clothing, shoes, and accessories is actually a little subtler and more understated than the runners we showed you earlier? In that case, we have a feeling you might prefer to give something like this hand painted watermelon picnic mat featured on Brit + Co. a try instead!
