Dominos Dorm Room Wall Art

If you’re like me, when I moved into my college dorm, I needed some artwork- but I had very little money to buy some.  So, when all else fails, I made my own art.  Here is the easiest wall art you’ll ever make.  If you like the game dominos, you’re sure to like this simple, acrylic painting that will only take you a few minutes to complete.

For this DIY, you’ll need:

  • Black and white acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • (2) 12″ x 12″ Artist canvases
  • Circle stencil
  • E-6000 craft glue

If you cannot find a single artist canvas that is 12 inches by 24 inches, you can select (2) 12 x 12 inch canvases.  These can be found at your local craft store.  Be sure to pick up a few paintbrushes and some acrylic paints.  You can use black and white, or if you prefer a bit of color, pick up two of your favorites.  These paints had a glossy finish to them, which is optional.

First, paint both canvases black and let it dry for 30 minutes to an hour.  If some of the white canvas is showing through, go over it with another coat.  Be sure to use a good, quality brush for this so that the first coat of acrylic paint does not begin to lift. Also paint the top and sides if you desire.

Use a circle stencil for the dots. If you do not have a circle stencil, you can achieve these dots be doing a few other things. You can trace around a cup or something similar with a white or metallic pen and then fill in the circle with white paint, or you can make your own stencil.  Using cardstock, cut a circle with a precision circle cutter.  These circles measured 7 inches.  Lay the stencil on the canvas and fill it in with white paint.

Again, go over this twice if the black paint shows through after drying.

I had to glue two canvases together because I could not find one 12 by 24 inch canvas at my local craft store.  Using the E-6000 or another strong adhesive, glue the two together, being sure to add enough so the bond is strong but not too much so it does not ooze over the edges.  Let it dry according to manufacture instructions.  Usually this is an hour to dry and 24 hours to cure completely.

A variation to this would be to paint on fabric to hang or to paint it on wood.  Wood would give it a rustic look, perfect for a living or family room. Choose your favorite numbers like a birthday or anniversary.  It’s simple DIY art that you can cherish forever- or maybe, at least while you’re in college!
