Cheese comes in so many shapes and forms and it’s all delicious. Camembert, for instance, is up there at the top of our most favorite types, but we do sometimes want to freeze some of our extra, especially since it’s not exactly the cheapest cheese to buy.

Can You Freeze Camembert Cheese?

I love french cheeses! I recently bought a dozen of Camembert cheeses to make a “camembert rôti” for a family meeting. Camembert rôti (roasted camembert) consists in puting the whole Camembert in its wood box in the oven, let it melt and serve it over potatoes and ham with some side salad.
So simple and sweet! It was such a success! But I have made too much and I have 4 camemberts left. They haven’t been cooked so I wonder if I could freeze them to do that great recipe later this winter?
Yes, you can freeze Camembert! Camembert is a great cheese and it will freeze well, but you may notice some changes in flavor.
How to Freeze Camembert Cheese?
When you want to freeze your Camembert, you need to go through a few easy steps:
- It’s best to leave it in its original packaging.
- If you want to cut it, wrap it in aluminum foil and then put it in a plastic bag.
- Take out all the air and seal the bag.
- Label the bag and place it in the fridge.
Beware that freezing does not stop the fermentation of the cheese but simply slows it down, so do not keep it too long in the freezer.
How to Keep Camembert Cheese for Longer?
If you want to make sure that your Camembert lasts for longer in the freezer, you should make sure the bag is perfectly sealed. You can do this with the help of a vacuum sealer, which can take out all the air, thus slowing down the process even longer.

How to Thaw Camembert Cheese?
You need to be aware that sometimes thawing a Camembert or Brie cheese can produce some floury. That shouldn’t affect the Camembert too much, but it does depend on how long you’ve kept it frozen.
If the taste of the Camembert does not satisfy you, you can switch it up and use it to stuff pancakes or to make a creamy sauce or make this fabulous “camembert rôti”.

- Take the Camembert out of the box and remove the paper if any, then put it back in the box. We suggest you make incisions in the crust, add in a bit of thyme and pepper.
- Close the cheese in the wooden box and wrap it in aluminum foil.
- Place it in the preheated oven (to 360F or 180C).
- Serve the hot Camembert with bread, over potatoes and ham, or however else you want to.
