How To Make An Olive Oil Hair Mask

Olive oil is great for your body in so many different ways, beyond just consuming it in your food. Its moisturizing properties are great for your skin, nails and even your hair – which is what I’m here to talk to you about today. I’m going to share how to apply an incredibly simple olive oil hair mask treatment to give it lots of extra shine and eliminate static frizz.

Ingredients for the olive oil hair mask:

  • Extra virgin oil
  • essential oil

Directions to prepare the olive oil hair mask treatment:

All you’ll need for this mask is extra virgin olive oil and essential oil. I chose orange because I’m partial to citrus, but you might try rosemary if your hair is thinning or lavender to help you relax. Pour about a half cup of olive oil into a glass bowl (or more if you have very long hair) and put 4-5 drops of essential oil into the bowl as well. Heat it in the microwave for about 30 seconds until it is warm. Carefully test it with your finger to make sure that it isn’t super hot.

Brush your hair thoroughly so there are no snarls or knots. Move to the sink and flip your head upside down so your hair is in the sink. Begin coating your hair with the oil with your hands until it is completely covered. You may even want to dip the ends right in the bowl if they are especially dry. Squeeze out any excess oil into the sink and clip your hair into a bun on the top of your head. Let it sit for 30 minutes, and be sure not to get the oil on your sofa or clothing.

Wash the oil out in the shower with a generous helping of shampoo. Rinse thoroughly and then shampoo again. This is important, because otherwise you’ll end up with greasy hair if any of the olive oil hasn’t been washed out (I would recommend doing this on a day when you don’t have any big plans, just in case). Finish with your normal conditioner. Style as usual. Your newly moisturized hair will look gorgeous for weeks to come!
