Creative DIY Plant Hangers

When we were kids, we remember happily helping our parents and grandparents do lots of gardening in the summertime months. To this day, it makes us smile to see flourishing gardens full of sunny summer blossoms because it reminds us of those memories. In our home, however, there’s no space for actual flower beds and large garden plots because we live in a townhome full of apartment buildings. That doesn’t mean, however, that we can’t have houseplants and greenery! We’re huge fans of small planters and pot displays because we can have them on mantles and side tables despite not having a full yard, so we’re always keeping an eye out for new DIY ideas to change up how we display our houseplants every once in a while. Lately, we’ve been feeling mostly hanging planters because they’re unique looking and even more space efficient than other kinds!

Just in case you’re as enamoured with how many different hanging planter designs are possible in the world of DIY as we were, if not more, here are 15 of the best ideas and tutorials we’ve come across in our search so far.

1. Hoop and macrame plant hanger

Hoop and macrame plant hanger

In all the time that we’ve been making hanging planters, we’ve always had a soft spot for macrame rope designs, possibly because the techniques used in making them remind us of making knotted friendship bracelets in summer camp. Because our current decor scheme is a little more modern than a lot of macrame designs lend their aesthetic to, however, we’ve been hoping to find a version that’s ever slightly more modern looking than usual, which is why we were so pleased to come across this tutorial from Persia Lou that has a minimalist hoop element in its hanging!

2. Knotted rope and terra cotta pot hanger

Are you actually a big fan of the way traditional terra cotta pots look like but you’d still like to get them up off the surfaces in your apartment, just so save a little bit of space? Then we’d definitely suggest taking a look at how Handimania did some of the most basic knot tying you’d find in a macrame project, but with a little more tassel on the bottom. We’re particularly fond of the way they made one of the hangers from coloured sueded to add a little personality to the room!

3. Vertical wooden platform hanger
