Step 1:

I’ve chosen orange, pink, blue and turquoise colored cardstock for this DIY.  These colors are perfect for a girl’s party.  The first thing you’ll need to do is cut it.  Depending on how you want the garland to look, determines the length of cardstock you cut.  Use the paper cutter to first cut long strips that are 1 inches wide, from a piece of 8.5 x 11 piece of cardstock.

You can also cut with scissors if you don’t have a paper cutter.  To make sure the lines are pretty straight, fan fold the paper the long way in 1 inch increments.  Then cut the strips on the folded line.  To make it easy and especially if kids are helping, you can make strips of paper that are wider at 2 inches and 12 inches long.

Step 2:

Cut each of the 1 inch strips in half, width-wise, to create new strips that are 6 x 1 inches.  Put on a good tv show, because this might take a while!

Step 3:

Tape the strips of paper to the twine, making sure that all the strips are facing the same way.  Tape at the top and the bottom of each strip, being sure to make sure the twine is taut.  Alternate colors for a varied look.  Space them out evenly at about 4 inches.  You can customize the spacing, but be sure to leave a little bit of room in between each strip to allow the twine to show through.

Step 4:

Continue to add these, as many as you can, to fill up a string of twine.  Tape it to your wall to create a colorful photo backdrop.

You can drape the garland on your wall or hang them from the ceiling as strips for a backdrop.  Add some smaller strips of paper to the wall with tape as confetti accents.  You can also hang it above a desk and tape small photos to the garland in an office to show off your images.
