Here are the materials you’ll need for this project:

  • A raw wood bangle bracelet (I bought mine here)
  • Acrylic craft paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Washi tape
  • Wire
  • Wire cutters
  • E6000 glue

Begin by wrapping the washi tape around the bangle so that it covers half of the surface. Cover the corresponding half on the inside of the bangle too. Smooth it down as best you can – but it won’t lay completely flat because of the multiple curved surfaces.

Paint the exposed wood using a small paintbrush. I would recommend choosing a color that contrasts nicely with both the wood and the wire that you’ve chosen.

Let it dry for a couple of hours, and then gently peel the washi tape off and discard it.

Begin wrapping the wire around and around the bangle, making sure to pull it as tight as you can and pushing each coil of wire right up next to the previous one so you don’t end up with large gaps between wire pieces. Continue for about three inches. If you run out of wire, simple trim the end so that it falls on the inside of the bangle and then start a new piece. Secure the ends with E6000 so they don’t poke your wrist. If they are being stubborn, add a bit of super glue once everything is dry and hold the wire in place until the super glue also dries. And that’s it… your wooden bangle bracelet is complete!

This same technique would look great on a series of smaller bangles, using a variety of different paint colors. Or you could even paint one thick bangle with several different shades of one color and then wrap it with wire.
