Easy Glass Votive Candle Holders With Lace Cover

Sure, plain white votives are pretty and all… but why not add some character to them with a pop of bright color and some lacey goodness? This easy project uses some surprising materials to create unique votives perfect for your next dinner party (or your coffee table!). So go grab a few glass votives and let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need to create your own “color dipped” lace votive candles:

  • Plain white votive candles in glass holders (I usedthese with these)
  • Black Lace
  • Colorful balloons
  • Scissors
  • E6000 glue

How to make the candle votives:

1. Begin by cutting your balloon in half. You’ll want to cut in a slight curve from the left out the right and back left again (according to the photo above).

2. Slide the wider part of the balloon over the bottom of the votive to create the “color dipped” effect. Discard the other, narrower piece of the balloon.

3. Trim off this little end piece to ensure that your votive won’t be wobbly.

4. It should look something like this. You can trim off more if need be, to make sure that it is stable.

5. Now wrap the end of your lace around the votive to measure. Cut the lace so it is half an inch longer than the circumference of the votive.

6. Wrap it around and glue one end to the other using E6000 glue. I chose this particular type of glue because it is not flammable and also super strong.

Let them dry, and voilà! You have a beautiful set of lace covered votives! The fun thing about these is that you can really customize them to your needs. If you’re making them for a rustic wedding, for example, try a lighter pink balloon with a more traditional white lace. Or use orange and green balloons with black lace for your entryway this Halloween.

They look great lined up in a row, too – a dozen would look so pretty arrangedon a mantel. And it wouldn’t take long to accomplish… it took me less than 15 minutes to make these three. Happy crafting everyone!
